About Me

In 2018 I moved to work for a part of the NHS as a Senior ETL Developer focusing on developing an Enterprise Data Warehouse to allow for efficient and effective Business Intelligence. In 2020 I was promoted to the role of Lead Data Warehouse and BI Developer meaning I am now the lead Developer for one of the many work-streams coming into our Enterprise Data Warehouse.

I worked as a Data Analyst / Data Scientist providing insight and analysis in a highly driven and fast paced Energy company. I have been solely responsible for automation of reporting using python and development of the data warehouse to complement this. I have begun the process of implementing machine learning technologies to enable us, for example, to have better detection of fraudulent sales. One of my biggest assets is that I am a problem solver, for example in my current role we had an increasing demand for reports which were progressive taking longer to complete, through the creation of a data warehouse and learning additional python I was able to improve the efficiency of the reporting by 500% which allowed us the time to create new report and introduce machine learning models to save the company time and money.

Previously I have worked as an Oracle database developer, primarily in the Insurance industry but also within the Oil/Gas industry.  This gave me exposure to a wide range of systems and allowed me to develop a lot of skills. I have work on the support and development of globally deployed Oracle databases and project management and business analysis.

I have had the responsibility to generate monthly management reports, solve user problems, create new SQL/PLSQL packages to meet business requirements and assist in the migration of data. The role involved the whole project life-cycle from eliciting requirements through to project management and implementation.

I have experience using SQL, PL/SQL, regular expressions, APEX, XML, Run my jobs, BI publisher, Discoverer, Excel and using Pivot tables, UNIX scripting, creating access databases, SQL loading, analytical functions and database tuning.

I have a blog on a medical condition I have suffered from (all good now!) and through contacts made I have become a trustee for the British Dupuytren's society. In this role I have contributed to an ever expanding patient community group, helped 100's of patients and conducted the largest ever Dupuytren's patient survey and presented the results at an international conference.

I am also a coach for my local running club, even here I have managed to apply machine learning algorithms, namely linear regression, in the prediction of times for a handicap run I organise.

I have started this blog to share and improve upon the knowledge I have developed in automating the production of word and excel document using python. Over time I additionally plan to add some machine learning work. The project has however evolved more into a Data Warehouse blog as this is the direction my career has taken.
